EMDR Therapy in York
Sometimes, things happen in your life that you know is in the past, but it still feels very present.

This is where EMDR can help.
EMDR Therapy with Emma
I’m trained to Level 4 in EMDR and have been practising since March 2012.
I work with adults, teens and children, in York and online.
Often (not always) we need between 6 and 12 sessions
Everyone's circumstances and experiences are different, so I tailor sessions to your needs
My experience and interest in trauma began when I adopted my girls in 2007. Now I use my lived experience alongside extensive training in trauma, psychology, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), hypnotherapy and coaching.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.
It is a structured psychotherapy that can help you process traumatic or distressing experiences that are still affecting how you think, feel or respond today.
Rather than simply talking through what happened again and again, EMDR helps your brain process the experience differently, so that the memories become less emotionally charged and you can feel more in control of your responses.
EMDR is recognised by the World Health Organisation and NICE, and the EMDR Association UK is the professional body for EMDR clinicians and researchers in the UK.
EMDR is commonly used to help people who have experienced anything that raises anxiety, stress or unhelpful thoughts, images or feelings.
Fears, Phobias, Panic Attacks
Trauma, accidents or traumatic events
Difficult or distressing experiences
Relationship trauma, abuse, violence
What does an EMDR session involve?
I’ll start by understanding what is happening for you now, what you want to change and what you’ve experienced.
We don’t jump straight into processing traumatic memories.
A really important part of the work is making sure you feel safe, understand what’s going to happen and have the tools you need to manage your emotions between sessions.
When we’re ready, I’ll guide you through the EMDR process, which uses bilateral stimulation such as eye movements or other forms of left-right stimulation while you focus on aspects of the experience. Don’t worry – I guide you slowly and steadily through all of this.
You remain in control throughout.
Ready to talk?
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you get in touch.
If you’re wondering whether EMDR is right for you, we can have a conversation first. I’ll be honest about whether I think I can help and whether EMDR is the right approach for what you’re experiencing.
If something from your past is still affecting you now, book a short discovery call and we can talk through what’s happening and whether I can help.
